Common questions about how the app behaves, with the setting or action that resolves each one. Settings marked Pro can only be changed on the Pro version; on the free version they use fixed defaults.

Practice sessions

Signs go by too fast. Raise the time per sign in Practice settings, under Sign Timing. Pro

The session ends before I finish the set. Raise the session length in Practice settings. Either way your place is saved when the timer ends, so you can resume and continue from where you stopped. Pro

I cannot hear the sign names. Make sure voice prompts are on, and turn the device volume up. Callouts are designed to play even when the phone is set to silent, so the silent switch is not the cause. In Adaptive timing mode, also check that the specific sign is not muted; a muted sign shows a “SIGN MUTED” banner while it is on screen.

It keeps announcing signs I already know. Mute those signs from the per-sign settings screen. A muted sign still appears with its full timer but is not announced. Pro

A sign I expected is missing from the session. It is marked to skip. Open the per-sign settings screen, where every sign in the set is listed, including skipped ones, and turn skip off to bring it back. Pro

I want the signs in a set order rather than random. Turn shuffle off. To practice a specific sequence, build a list in the order you want and practice from it. Pro

The session paused on its own when I took a call or switched apps. This is expected. A running session pauses whenever the app is interrupted. Return to the app and tap Resume to continue. On the Pro version your progress is also saved to the device, so it can be recovered even if the app is closed.

Lists

I cannot add another sign to a list. The list has reached its limit: 8 signs on the free Favorites list, or 40 signs on a Pro list. Remove a sign to make room, or, on Pro, use another list. Pro

I cannot create another list. The free version includes only the Favorites list. Pro allows up to 25 lists. Pro

I cannot delete a list. At least one list must always exist, so the final remaining list cannot be deleted. You can clear its signs instead.

Signs and video

A sign’s video will not play. The videos are hosted on the AKC’s YouTube channel, so a live internet connection is required. Tapping the thumbnail opens the video in the YouTube app if it is installed, or in your browser otherwise.

A sign has no Video tab. The Video tab appears only for signs that have a linked video. Not every sign does.

Free and Pro

The practice settings are greyed out or locked. Editable practice settings are a Pro feature. The free version runs a sample session with fixed values.

My lists or settings changed after my Pro access ended. When Pro access ends, the app returns to free limits: lists are trimmed to the free cap and per-sign practice settings are reset to their defaults. Restoring Pro restores access to those features, though any data removed to meet the free limits is not automatically rebuilt.
